Set up differently for each shot
The pitch shot uses a narrower stance with ball position centre or just left of centre, weight forward, and hands forward — while the chip shot uses a shoulder-width stance with the ball further left and arms hanging straight down.
Match your swing to the shot
For the pitch, think ‘L to L’ with a half swing focused on clean ball-to-ground contact; for the chip, rotate the lead shoulder under the chin and let the chest follow through to the target with a fuller swing.
Know what each shot is designed to do
The pitch flies high and stops quickly — ideal when there’s an obstacle to carry — while the chip flies high and far with a little roll once it lands on the green.
